1. WCI Certified Career Coach (CCC)

The World Coach Institute (WCI) offers the Certified Career Coach (CCC) designation, which you can earn in a self-study course or an eight-week teleclass. In the teleclass, you’ll observe coaching sessions, coach others, be coached, and give and receive feedback. Upon completing one of WCI’s foundation programs, you can acquire add-on niche certifications to broaden your scope and better assist your clients.

The exam will test your knowledge in coaching communication and competency skills, business and career development, and applying the tools taught during the course. To earn your certification, you must pass an open-book and multiple-choice final exam with 20 module assignments. The course offers self-study materials, coaching training sessions, and feedback to help you prepare for the test. A buddy coaching program is also available, in which you meet with another learner for a one-on-one coaching session.

2. NCDA Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP)

Requirements: Proof of a Certificate of Completion for the National Career Development Association’s (NCDA) Facilitating Career Development training

The Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP) offered by the NCDA validates skills that help you provide your services in various capacities, including a consultant, coach, and resume writer. The International Coaching Federation (ICF) offers the Career Coaching Certification through its Coach Transformation Academy. This online program provides the tools and resources to help others develop a successful career plan. It includes 60 hours of coaching training and 10 hours of mentor coaching.

Taking ICF’s Foundational Coaching Skills course is an excellent way to prepare for the certification course and learn what the role entails. It explains what coaching is, the methods used to gain success, and how to apply coaching to different aspects of a client’s needs. In the course, you will learn what coaching is and is not, as well as how to implement it in your personal and professional life. 

4. PARWCC Certified Professional Career Coach (CPCC) certification

Requirements: Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC) membership

Cost (US): $1,395 for PARWCC members, $1,570 for nonmembers [3]

The Certified Professional Career Coach (CPCC) program offered by PARWCC is a self-study training program designed to help you gain the tools needed to be an inspiring, empowering, and motivating career coach. The course includes five hours of video, along with written materials that provide case studies and training exercises. The program also offers webinars, an online support option, and testing. You will receive six hours of documented coaching time before receiving your certification.

This course is for those who want to coach clients by offering them the tools they need to succeed in their careers. These include planning and meeting goals, searching for jobs that fit their skills, standing out from other candidates, and seeking promotions or new opportunities. The main focus of this course is on how you can help clients navigate the job market and their goals.

To pass the program, here are some tasks that you need to complete:

  • Four hours of documented training time

  • Goal forms for you and your client

  • A mini-business development plan if you work for yourself

  • A workforce coaching service offering plan if you have an employer

  • Essay-style written test

The written training manual, training videos, webinars, and Q&A sessions can help you prepare for the final step. You can complete the program in eight to 12 weeks, but learners have up to a year to finish it.

5. NACE Coaching Certification Program (CCP)

Requirements: Educational and professional work hours prerequisites established by the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE)

Cost (US) for 30-hour program: $2,379 for NACE members, $3,129 for nonmembers [4]

Cost (US) for 60-hour program: $3,679 for NACE members, $5,179 for nonmembers [5]

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Coaching Certification Program is helpful for those who want to attain a Board Certified Coach (BCC) credential offered through the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE). Depending on the module, formats include virtual, by instruction, roundtable discussions, and case study reviews.

You can choose from a 30-hour or a 60-hour program, depending on your level of education and professional work hours accumulated. After completing each module, you must pass the NACE Knowledge Assessment with a score of 88 percent or higher and receive a certificate for the completed work. You have three attempts to pass before retaking the module from the beginning.
